*Arrive early to hear the REAL, good sh*t.

>> Fresh from the presses, this is a 13″x19″poster printed digitally (and within a few months: hand-pulled, limited-ed., signed silkscreen prints). There is also a high-res version for you detail-oriented folks, and for the DIY/art-collector’s set, I’ve put the actual poster on public domain (Creative Commons) as a PDF (35 mb download), so you can print it out on your own printer (if you feel like it).

[side-note]

I’ve gotten responses from people who are *concerned because they think they need to RSVP again. Sorry for the confusion. So the issue is, if you have RSVP’d from before, you’re good to go from now until forever. But for the heads that haven’t checked out the place, and if you want to peep it out on a monthly basis, then PLEASE RSVP. It’s just a quick drop. We’re not out to solicit commercialist-crap on you, we’re just checkin’ if you’re down for the cause. If you still don’t know what it’s about, download the Grand-Opening podcast to get a feel of what we do. Remember, there are no lines, no list, and no bottle service (unless you count the 40 oh-zee Tecate’s ’cause those things are massive). Everyone’s special once you find the place. That’s the beauty of it.

A Tribute to “The Dread At The Controls”: Mikey Dread

Music — Fraze @ 8:09 pm

Mikey

_

Mr. Michael Campbell…started his career as an engineer at JBC radio. He convinced the bosses to give him a show because he was not satisfied with the top 40 commercial music that was being played. The name of the show was called “Dread At The Controls.” During this time, some of the most potent reggae was being recorded in Jamaica, giving him another reason to let this music be heard. The show was a hit all over the island and he was to be eventually known as, DJ Mikey Dread. MD’s show was fun, and adventurous. It was known for its super-sonic-space-like style. But due to right wing conservatives management controlling the air waves, Mikey Dread and JBC were at a clash, and so in protest, he quit.

A Meeting of The Minds.

Event — Jason @ 11:26 am

Last night Clo, Fraze and I got together with Mr. Suzuran himself, Rodney, to discuss this month’s fast approaching BEST KEPT (keep your eyes peeled on our site to be informed!). Rodney is one cool cat, always keeping an open mind and always so generous…cold ones on the house every time we visit :)

Rocksteady *Jamaican Soul* instrumentals!

Coxonne Dodd

Here are a few songs for the masses to enjoy. You might have heard them before in a different fashion or version, but we think you will enjoy these hand picked tracks straight from my 45 collection. We’ve got Mr. Donaldson covering a great Motown classic, founding Skatalite member Jackie Mittoo, with the sweet, sweet organ sound as always, and Mr. Ernest Ranglin, killing the strings with style and grace. The stylistic qualities of the guitar and a touch of caribbean jazz is yes indeed, a good blend of soul-tingling-candy.

Mental-note:

Jackie Mittoo and Ernest Ranglin worked for Mr. Clement S. Dodd aka “Sir Coxsone DownBeat The Ruler”.
